The Vocational Guidance and Counseling Branch of the Western Thrace Minority University
Graduates Association held a session titled “The Healing Power of Architectural Design: Is
Space a Healing Tool?” on February 20, 2026, as part of its “Personal Development
Workshops.” The session began with a presentation prepared by high school seniors Melike
and Elif. Opening with the emphasis that “Sometimes architecture can be as effective as
treatment,” the presentation discussed the changes and developments in medical science
throughout history and their impact on hospital structures. It also focused on the reflections of
technological advancements on architectural design, and included the views of experts
working in design. As part of the event, the question “How does it feel to be a patient and a
doctor in a crowded environment?” was posed to the participants, encouraging group
participation and raising awareness. In addition, the effects of a hospital with modern
architecture on both doctors and patients were discussed; the concept of a healing hospital and
the quality of service were emphasized. At the end of the session, the treatment methods
applied to patients in the past at the Edirne Darussifa Complex were mentioned. The
functioning of the healing center was better understood through a video presentation, and the
event ended.
